Well, initially, being offered to go on the Vietnam field trip, I already sensed the 'calling' to go for it. I hesitated for some time, though. Later I realised the benefits of this program despite the cost.

Firstly, I feel that everybody needs to be globalised in order to keep up-to-date with what is happening around the world. Therefore, through this program not only do I become excited about the journey and experiences I am going to have, but also I feel the need to look for news and any information about the country itself as well as other countries in the world. I have to admit I found it tiresome to do so before.

Secondly, I want to satisfy my curiosity of how I would feel on a school trip in which most of the activities are more into social interactions than merely sight-seeing. The agent orange which has caused many to suffer from physical disability somewhat touched me.

Thirdly, I discovered that Vietnam's cultures, Vietnamese, the language especially, is quite challenging in the sense that they have different pronunciation as we do have in Chinese and that the inaccurate pronunciation could mean differently and even have no meaning. I was around with Vietnamese friends last year, I was suddenly asked to pronounce a title of a book in Vietnamese by one of them. With confidence, I just uttered the letters as the spelling suggested so, and they laughed at the way I read! -embarrassed-

The school field trip to Vietnam will be beneficial to the students. The reasons why i chose to go for this trip is :
1) Truth
2) To be able to benefit from globalisation and adapt to it.

In the midst and era of a globalising world, text-based knowledge is no longer as important as current knowledge. Current knowledge- What exactly is it?
We watch the news regularly to keep ourselves up to date with current affairs of the world. We believe whatever that the new reporter says and in the process, we ourselves lose the most basic instinct of life- to differentiate what is false and what is true.
How much can we believe reporters or the news? The fact that it has picture to back up what he/she says or the fact that this is a reliable media and hence i can believe what is said?
Pictures are just images captured at a particular instant in time. Nobody knows what has happened before this or after this or whether this was a picture that was planned and taken. It is extremely wrong to say that nobody in this world is just and fair. Everyone has a motive for doing anything. Students study to achieve exemplary grades and and adults choose a certain job because of the good prospects.
Nothing in the world is true. That includes textbooks and even encyclopaedias. For example, from a textbook point of view, the truth towards Singapore’s success may be due to MM lee kuan yew. But however, others may think that Singapore’s success was due to Dr. Albert. Winsemius, a renowned economist who has given Singapore invaluable advise for Singapore to be developed. Each and every one of us are different from one another and our definition of truth lies on our angle of assessment and how we feel towards a particular issue.
The trip to Vietnam will enable me to gain a better understanding towards the country. I will be able to , to a certain extent, be given a certain grain of truth according to my view and perspective towards Vietnam, and give myself a reasonable answer. In the geography textbook, Vietnam may have a literacy rate of 94.0 %. But i will never know their actual level or literacy because i may have a different definition and angle of assessment for vietnam’s literacy rate. I have to interact with them in person before i can know about it.

In this globalising world, we have to change and adapt to it before being able to gain any benefits out of it. By visiting Vietnam, i will be able to interact with the people them and understand their cultures. As Vietnam is developing at a high rate now, being able to understand them and their cultures would enable us to gain a competitive edge over others in the near future if we decide to work there.

Truths are never known till we go searching for it and find it out individually. Globalisation is an unchangeable fact in the 21st century. The person who is able to adapt best and know the most will get the job and survive in this ever-changing world of trends and knowledge.
